Greenville and Pitt County Crash Numbers, 2024 Crash Facts Edition

The 2024 Traffic Crash Facts city table prints 3,434 crashes for Greenville, along with 1,553 injuries and 6 fatalities. For Pitt County, the county fatalities table shows 28 people killed in 2024, next to the 27 printed as its 10 Year Average. None of those figures tells anyone who caused your crash.

No edition newer than 2024 is posted for download on NCDMV's Crash Facts Archive, and the agency says the 2025 report can be had by email request. All figures below are from the 2024 edition and appear exactly as printed.

The sections cover Greenville's city row, what that table leaves undefined, Greenville's alcohol, pedestrian and bicycle figures, eleven years of Pitt County deaths, school bus crashes in Pitt County, and what the numbers leave open for an injured person.

01

Greenville's 3,434 crashes in NCDMV's 2024 city table

Greenville's line sits in Section 4, City Data, which begins on page 26 of the 2024 edition. The row prints crashes, fatalities and injuries for all crashes first, then repeats those columns for three groups labeled Alcohol, Pedestrian and Bicycle.

Statewide, the same edition's General Crash Picture counts 284,546 traffic crashes in 2024, with 113,602 persons injured and 1,732 persons killed. I leave the comparison there, since a statewide total says nothing about one Greenville intersection.

Goldsboro, another city in these eastern counties, prints 1,333 crashes, 3 fatalities and 614 injuries on its own 2024 row. Each city row stands alone, and the table offers no rate per resident for either one.

02

What NCDMV's city table leaves undefined for Greenville

The city data pages of the 2024 edition print no note, no footnote and no explanation of how the state decides which city a crash belongs to. The Greenville row does not say whether it counts only crashes inside the city limits or every crash a particular agency worked.

The DMV-349 crash report form carries a Municipality field among its location entries. The form describes its own purpose as statistics and highway safety programs.

Read the Greenville row as the state's count under the city's name. The table never says how it drew that line.

The table also says nothing on crashes in private lots. Greenville officers take no crash reports on private ground under policy 61.2.1, and the Greenville report request page covers what that means for getting a copy. If your crash happened in a store lot, I would not look to this table for anything about it.

03

Greenville's 2024 Alcohol, Pedestrian and Bicycle figures

Greenville's 2024 alcohol column shows 61 crashes with 49 injuries and no fatalities. The city table labels the column Alcohol and gives no definition of it on the city pages.

People on foot in Greenville

The Pedestrian column prints 35 crashes, 1 fatality and 38 injuries for 2024.

People on bicycles in Greenville

The Bicycle column prints 15 crashes, no fatalities and 11 injuries for 2024.

If a driver hit you while you were walking or riding in Greenville, say so early in our first call. A crash like that reads differently from a collision between two cars, and I want the full picture from the start.

04

Eleven years of Pitt County traffic deaths, 2014 to 2024

Page 6 of the 2024 edition lists 28 people killed in Pitt County in 2024, in a county table covering 2014 through 2024. The table prints a 10 Year Average of 27 for Pitt and does not define it in a note.

The highest Pitt County year in that span is 2020. One year against another tells you little about any single road in Greenville, and I do not read a trend into it.

Statewide, the same table prints 1,686 deaths for 2023 and a 10 Year Average of 1,532, against the 1,732 persons killed in 2024. Pitt County's 2024 figure sits close to its own printed average.

The county table counts deaths anywhere in Pitt, inside Greenville or outside it. For a family after a fatal Greenville crash, the wrongful death page explains the family's side of a claim.

05

Pitt County's 13 school bus crashes, and asking for 2025 figures

The page 24 school bus table, which sorts 2024 crashes by county, gives Pitt County 13 crashes, 0 fatalities and 4 injuries. Its columns read County, Crashes, Fatalities and Injuries, and it gives no breakdown by city.

Fault, insurance and the limits of Greenville's crash figures

A crash statistic describes many crashes at once and decides nothing about yours. The DMV-349 form behind each Greenville Police report leaves fault to insurers and the state's courts, in its own printed words.

A crash statistic describes many crashes at once and decides nothing about yours.

What matters for your claim sits in your own report, your medical records and the insurance on the vehicles involved. A county total is background, and your claim turns on one driver's conduct on one Greenville street.

Our first Greenville conversation, and the visit that follows it, are laid out on the Greenville crash page.

Questions

Common questions

Can a crash statistic prove the other driver caused my Greenville crash?

No crash statistic proves fault in a single collision. The DMV-349 form hands fault questions to insurers or the courts, and a city or county total describes many crashes without looking at any one of them.

How many people died in Greenville crashes in 2024?

The state's 2024 city table prints 6 fatalities for Greenville. Pitt County as a whole lost 28 people that year in the county fatalities table, a separate table with its own count, inside and outside the city.

Does the Greenville row count crashes ECU Police worked?

NCDMV's 2024 city rows never say which agency's reports feed them, Greenville's included. ECU Police officers have jurisdiction on university property under G.S. 116-40.5, and the table gives no separate line for the campus.
