Getting a Fayetteville Crash Report From FPD, Fort Bragg or the NCDMV

You pull a Fayetteville Police Department crash report from the department's online P2C search by entering the accident number. None of the city's crash report pages lists a fee for that online copy. Without the number, Records Division staff in the three police district lobbies help with a public records request.

Crash reports in Fayetteville

A crash report is the record the investigating officer writes about the crash, and the agency whose officer came is the first place to ask for it. In Fayetteville that agency can be Fayetteville police, a Highway Patrol trooper, a sheriff's deputy or the Army's investigators on Fort Bragg. Get your own copy in hand before our meeting.

The P2C accident number search comes first below, followed by the records kiosks in the district lobbies, the reportable crash threshold in state law, the Fort Bragg request form, then the NCDMV copy, its fee and its timing.

01

The FPD P2C Accident Report Search runs on your accident number

Fayetteville Police Department crash reports are searched on the department's P2C site, where the Accident Report Search puts an asterisk beside Accident Number and beside no other field. The Police Reports page on the city's website links that search under the words Obtain a copy of Accident Report.

Field on the FPD Accident Report SearchHow the page shows it
Accident NumberMarked with an asterisk as required
Date OccurredListed without the required mark
Drivers License and Drivers License StateListed without the required mark
Insurance Policy #Listed without the required mark

Under the heading Obtain a Copy of a Crash Report, the city's Crime Data page says a copy can be saved to a computer or mobile device, or printed. The P2C home page describes the crash search the same way, as a search of crash reports by accident number.

The accident number unlocks the online Fayetteville copy. Keep whatever paperwork the officer handed you and look for that number first.

Fayetteville records kiosks at Hay Street, Sycamore Dairy and Raeford Road

Public Records Request Kiosks stand in the lobbies of the Fayetteville Police Department's Campbellton, Central and Cross Creek district stations, according to a department release dated July 29, 2025. The kiosks are available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, and Records Division staff are in those lobbies to help during the same hours.

File at a kiosk or through NextRequest

The city takes the same request online through its NextRequest portal or at a district lobby in person.

Watch for the confirmation email

The department says a confirmation email arrives within 48 business hours of a kiosk request.

Track the due date in NextRequest

The city sets a due date of up to 30 business days and sends updates through the NextRequest portal.

The City of Fayetteville's public records page charges nothing for a request that takes less than four hours of staff or IT time, and it does not bill for time spent redacting. Copies carry the small charges below.

03

The $1,000 reportable crash threshold and Fayetteville reports

Under G.S. 20-4.01(33b), a motor vehicle crash counts as reportable once it causes a death, an injury, or at least $1,000 of total property damage. The main table in NCDOT's Cumberland County crash profile carries the label Reportable Crashes.

Inside the Fayetteville city limits, the police department's Written Directive 1.1 gives state officers and Cumberland County officers jurisdiction alongside city officers. The table matches each kind of Fayetteville area crash to the place its report is requested.

Exception. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says its accident reports are not available online. Its records page points anyone seeking a report on a private-property crash outside city limits to Records Management at 131 Dick Street, by phone or email.

Where nobody in a Fayetteville crash was hurt and the damage came to less than $1,000, the statute leaves it out, except when the damaged vehicle had been seized under G.S. 20-28.3. Ask the agency whether a report exists before you wait on one.

04

Fort Bragg crash reports through the Law Enforcement Report Request

Fort Bragg's Directorate of Emergency Services releases its traffic accident reports and military police reports through one request form, filed by a person the report identifies. The signed form goes by email to usarmy.bragg.imcom.mbx.police-services@army.mil.

Confirm the Fort Bragg investigation is closed

The form has the requester verify that the investigation is closed and finalized before asking for the report.

Sign and attach identification

A copy of a government-issued identification card goes with the signed form, and a legal representative adds proof of legal representation.

Expect a redacted Fort Bragg copy

Fort Bragg's FOIA office says reports released through Fort Bragg are redacted under the Privacy Act and FOIA, and a request for an unredacted report goes on to the appropriate FOIA office.

For requests it handles, the FOIA office says simple ones such as traffic accident reports are generally processed within twenty working days of reaching that office. Questions about the form go to (910) 396-0391 or 396-0392.

The Fort Bragg form reaches Fort Bragg records only. It cannot pull a report held by another installation or by the Criminal Investigation Division.

05

Ordering Fayetteville reports from the NCDMV for $6.50

The state Division of Motor Vehicles, known as the NCDMV, also sells crash report copies, and anyone involved in a Fayetteville crash orders one on form TR-67A. The individual's copy is redacted. G.S. 20-42(b) sets a $6.50 fee for an accident report, and by the Division's count a mailed request takes about ten business days from receipt.

The NCDMV does not take online orders from individuals. Raleigh Central Services on New Bern Avenue and the License Plate Agency on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road in Huntersville both hand over up to five records the same day to a person who asks at the counter.

For a crash a city officer worked, start with the department's own search. When the report is yours, the Fayetteville city page explains the courthouse on Dick Street and our opening call, the contact page asks for a visit, and the Fayetteville crash statistics page puts your crash in the context of the city's numbers.

Questions

Common questions

What if the P2C search finds nothing for my Fayetteville accident number?

Use a Public Records Request Kiosk in any of the three Fayetteville Police district lobbies, where Records Division staff help on weekdays, or file through the city's NextRequest portal. The city sends a confirmation email within 48 business hours and sets a due date of up to 30 business days.

Does the NCDMV send an individual a full Fayetteville report?

Not for an individual. The NCDMV says the version an individual receives hides some personal details, and it gives names and addresses as examples. A North Carolina based or licensed business whose request falls within a Drivers Privacy Protection Act exception can get the unredacted report.

Who can ask for a Fort Bragg report on a crash I was in?

The Fort Bragg request form is written for a person identified in the report by name or other identifier, sent with a signed form and a copy of a government-issued ID. Parents of minors, legal guardians and legal representatives add proof of guardianship or representation.
