A Greensboro Injury Attorney Who Starts With a Call and Comes to You
If a Greensboro crash hurt you or someone close to you, call me first. The first step is a conversation, by phone or on video. Following that first conversation, I can come to you, in a Greensboro hospital room if that is where you are, and we settle at that meeting whether to take your matter on together.
My only office sits on West Elm Street in Graham, across the Alamance County line from Guilford County's eastern edge. Admitted to practice in 1998, I start a Greensboro caller exactly where I start a Graham caller, with a conversation and then a meeting where they are.
The sections that follow name the department that likely wrote your report, explain how Guilford's Superior Court splits work between Greensboro and High Point, place Greensboro inside Guilford beside the Alamance line, cover two planned projects on Battleground Avenue and Gate City Boulevard, set the 2024 citywide crash figures next to the Census estimate, and list the papers worth gathering before we meet.
01
Greensboro Police, UNCG Police or the Guilford Sheriff took your report
A crash inside Greensboro usually draws the Greensboro Police Department, while a crash beyond any city's limits usually goes to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. A Highway Patrol first sergeant made that point during an NCDPS Safety Scoop episode, adding that where a city has a department of its own, that department will most likely respond.
| Agency | Where it works in and around Greensboro | Crash report process, per its own page |
|---|---|---|
| Greensboro Police Department | City of Greensboro | Copies for drivers, passengers and registered owners, online via LexisNexis or at the headquarters records desk |
| UNC Greensboro Police Department | UNCG campus, headquartered at 1200 W. Gate City Blvd. | Writes the NC DMV-349 and offers redacted copies through its electronic crash report database |
| Guilford County Sheriff's Office | Unincorporated Guilford County plus seven towns | Its district patrol page sets out no crash report process |
Sheriff's District 1 starts at the Greensboro line
The Guilford County Sheriff's Office serves the county's unincorporated areas along with Jamestown, Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, Summerfield and Whitsett. The office describes its District 1 as bounded on the south by the Greensboro city limits, which means a collision just past that boundary can fall to a different agency than one a block inside it.
The department at the scene holds your report. Each department's request route, UNCG and the airport included, appears on the Greensboro crash report page.
I leave the Highway Patrol troop serving Guilford to the Triad region page, which covers it.
02
Will a Greensboro crash case be heard in Greensboro or High Point?
Guilford County's Superior Court has two trial divisions, one in Greensboro and one in High Point, and the county's civil rules say both were established under G.S. 7A-42. Subsection (c) of that statute builds the High Point Division from the township High Point lies in and every contiguous Guilford township, and the remaining Guilford townships make up the Greensboro Division.
G.S. 7A-42(c) also tells the court to choose between the two divisions with the same venue rules that apply between counties. G.S. 1-82 ties the place of trial to where the plaintiffs or defendants reside when the action begins, so the townships the parties live in count, and the intersection where the vehicles collided does not.
| Division | Courthouse | Address | Main line |
|---|---|---|---|
| Greensboro Division | Guilford County Courthouse | 201 South Eugene St, Greensboro, NC 27401 | (336) 412-7300 |
| High Point Division | Guilford County Courthouse - High Point | 505 East Green Drive, High Point, NC 27262 | (336) 822-6700 |
Both courthouses belong to Superior Court District 24 and District Court District 24. G.S. 7A-42(b) has the clerk keep civil and criminal dockets bearing the name of the city where those sessions sit, and a summons in an action headed for trial there must clearly designate the place of trial. Rule 1.5 of the Guilford rules, as amended effective January 1, 2026, makes the High Point TCM responsible for High Point Division civil cases and the Greensboro TCM responsible for Greensboro Division civil cases.
The $25,000 line between Guilford District and Superior Court
G.S. 7A-243 sets $25,000 as the dividing figure in Guilford as everywhere in North Carolina: at or below it, the District Court is the proper division, and above it, the Superior Court. The Greensboro and High Point divisions described above are divisions of the Superior Court under G.S. 7A-42(c).
Exception. G.S. 1-82 shifts when none of the defendants lives in North Carolina, and venue then follows the residence of a plaintiff. If not a single party resides in the state, the statute leaves the choice of county to the plaintiff, who states it in the summons and complaint.
03
Greensboro sits wholly in Guilford, next to the Alamance County line
Every Greensboro address is a Guilford County address, because the city lies entirely within Guilford. Greensboro is missing from the July 2025 table of municipalities crossing a county line, published by the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management, and five other places on that table count residents in Guilford.
| Municipality | Primary county, per OSBM | Guilford share of residents, July 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| High Point | Guilford | 110,354, or 93.36 percent |
| Gibsonville | Guilford | 5,079, or 51.5 percent |
| Burlington | Alamance | 2,238, or 3.59 percent |
| Kernersville | Forsyth | 595, or 2.08 percent |
| Archdale | Randolph | 545, or 4.37 percent |
Guilford's eastern edge is the Alamance County line. The Guilford County Sheriff's Office describes its District 2 as bounded by Alamance County to the east, and the General Assembly ratified an Alamance and Guilford boundary act in 2013 as S.L. 2013-68. Graham, where my office is, is also home to the Alamance County Historical Courthouse at 1 Court Square.
Exception. Two places on that list, Burlington and Gibsonville, have residents on both the Alamance and Guilford sides. For a crash on the Alamance side, the right site is juliandoby.com, which serves Alamance, Caswell, Orange and Chatham counties.
Every Greensboro address is a Guilford County address.

Planned work on Battleground Avenue and Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro
NCDOT project U-5892 would widen U.S. 220, which is Battleground Avenue in Greensboro, to six lanes, three each way, between Westridge Road and the eastbound I-840 ramps, adding a median and sidewalks on both sides. Funding for U-5892 stands at $16.9 million on NCDOT's page, which reports planning and development underway.
Gate City Boulevard between Willow Road and Florida Street
The City of Greensboro Department of Transportation plans to redesign and widen Gate City Boulevard from Willow Road to Florida Street. Recommended improvements on the city's project page include sidewalks with decorative crosswalks, pedestrian signals at signalized intersections, bike lanes, and curb, gutter and storm drainage work. That page marks right-of-way acquisition and final design complete.
The state crash form has a Work Zone Related block, boxes 78 through 81 in the NCDMV's DMV-349 Instructional Manual, for the work zone area, the work activity, whether the area was marked and where in the zone the crash occurred. If your collision happened near either project, I want your own notes on lane closures and posted signs while your memory is fresh.
The DMV-349 gives a work zone crash four boxes, and your notes on cones and signs hold detail no code can.
The car accident page covers the injury claim when a crash happens on Battleground Avenue or Gate City Boulevard.

Greensboro's 2024 crashes set beside its 308,667 residents
Greensboro's row in the City Crash Data table of the North Carolina 2024 Traffic Crash Facts shows 8,868 crashes, 50 fatalities and 5,297 injuries under its All heading.
QuickFacts from the U.S. Census Bureau puts Greensboro at 308,667 residents in its Vintage 2025 figures dated July 1, 2025, ahead of Winston-Salem and High Point in that series.
| City | Census QuickFacts, July 1, 2025 (V2025) |
|---|---|
| Greensboro city | 308,667 |
| Winston-Salem city | 257,271 |
| High Point city | 120,571 |
Read alone, a citywide crash total measures frequency across Greensboro and is silent on how any single driver behaved. The Greensboro crash statistics page lists the row's pedestrian figures with the bicycle and alcohol groups and adds Guilford County's figures.

Papers worth gathering in Greensboro before our first meeting
The report number for your Greensboro crash is the most useful thing you can bring when we meet. Greensboro Police Records sits at 320 Federal Place, which the department also lists as 100 Police Plaza, and its phone is 336-373-2435.
Phone Julian Doby Law in Graham
Our number is 336-221-8900. Lorena Meza, a paralegal here who speaks Spanish, is the person to ask for when you would rather speak Spanish.
Get the report number from GPD or UNCG Police
The department that came to the scene can give you its report number. UNCG Police keeps an online database that pulls up a report when you supply its number, when the crash occurred, who was driving or which street it was on.
Our Greensboro meeting, face to face
Once our phone or video talk has happened, I can come to you. That meeting is when we decide together if we will work as a team.
An exchange slip and the names of witnesses are worth bringing as well. The how it works page describes the visit in order, and you can ask for one on the contact page.
Questions
Common questions
Which agency handles a crash report at Piedmont Triad International Airport?
The Piedmont Triad Airport Authority Police Department's page answers questions about an auto accident at PTI by pointing to NCDMV crash reports, though the page never says the department writes them. The department lists its address as 1000A Ted Johnson Parkway, Greensboro, NC 27409.
Is the Greensboro courthouse clerk open over lunch?
No. The North Carolina Judicial Branch lists hours for the Guilford County Clerk of Superior Court's office at 201 South Eugene St that run from 8:30 a.m. to a 5:00 p.m. close on weekdays, with a lunch closure from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. The High Point courthouse lists the same hours and the same lunch closure.
Does UNCG Police write its own report for a campus crash?
Yes, for the crashes it handles. The UNC Greensboro Police Department completes the NC DMV-349 and offers redacted copies through its electronic crash report database. Its page says UNCG Police cannot supply a DMV-349 with certification and sends people to NCDOT for one.
