Greensboro and Guilford County Crash Numbers From the 2024 State Data
The newest state crash book posted for download puts Greensboro above eight thousand crashes for 2024, and pedestrians account for close to two in five of the city's traffic deaths in that row. Guilford County's deaths that year ran above its printed ten-year average. No total settles fault in the crash that injured you.
People killed in crashes, Guilford County
| 2024 | 78 |
|---|---|
| 2023 | 57 |
| Yearly average, 2014 to 2023 | 66 |
Two state publications supply every figure here: the NCDMV's North Carolina 2024 Traffic Crash Facts and NCDOT's 2024 Guilford County Crash Profile. The tables carry the digits, and my paragraphs explain what each figure counts for Greensboro.
In order, the sections give the citywide 2024 row, the pedestrian share of Greensboro deaths beside the alcohol and bicycle groups, Guilford County deaths over eleven years, the county profile's severity split with its pedestrian and alcohol rows, school bus crashes with the 2025 edition, and why a city total cannot settle fault.
01
8,868 Greensboro crashes, and what the city row counts
In the City Crash Data table of the North Carolina 2024 Traffic Crash Facts, Greensboro's row reads 8,868 crashes, 50 fatalities and 5,297 injuries under All, the first of the table's four column groups.
The Crashes column counts collisions, while the Fatalities and Injuries columns count deaths and injuries, so the three Greensboro figures measure different things and should not be summed. A single Greensboro collision with several people hurt can add several entries to the Injuries column.
Greensboro's row is sorted by place, and the book prints no footnote saying how a crash ends up in a particular city's row.
| Column group in the city table | Crashes | Fatalities | Injuries |
|---|---|---|---|
| All, Greensboro | 8,868 | 50 | 5,297 |
02
Pedestrians in Greensboro, 19 of the city's 50 traffic deaths
Greensboro's Pedestrian group, in the same 2024 city table, shows 142 crashes, 19 fatalities and 158 injuries.
| Greensboro column group, 2024 | Crashes | Fatalities | Injuries |
|---|---|---|---|
| All | 8,868 | 50 | 5,297 |
| Alcohol | 350 | 12 | 275 |
| Pedestrian | 142 | 19 | 158 |
| Bicycle | 27 | 0 | 26 |
Crashes involving pedestrians make up a small fraction of the Greensboro total, yet they carry close to two in five of the city's deaths. For 2024 the Bicycle group lists 26 injuries and no deaths, and the Alcohol group lists 12 deaths.
The book prints the four groups across one Greensboro row without saying whether a single crash may appear in two of them, so I treat each group as its own count and never total them. Those nineteen deaths are nineteen Greensboro families.
Those nineteen deaths are nineteen Greensboro families.

Guilford County's 78 deaths in 2024 against a decade of counts
Guilford County's row in Fatalities by County: 10 Year Trend, from the 2024 edition, shows 78 people killed in 2024, up from 57 in 2023, beside a printed 10 Year Average of 66. Adding the ten yearly figures from 2014 to 2023 and dividing by ten gives exactly 66, so the printed average leaves 2024 out.
| Year | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guilford deaths | 56 | 59 | 59 | 67 | 61 | 64 | 73 | 97 | 67 | 57 | 78 |
That county row reaches well past Greensboro, taking in High Point, Guilford's towns and the roads beyond any city limits. For a family facing a death after a Guilford County crash, the wrongful death page sets out what that claim involves.
04
How severe were Guilford County's 14,948 reportable crashes in 2024?
NCDOT's 2024 Guilford County Crash Profile counts 14,948 reportable crashes in Guilford in 2024, split into 74 fatal, 5,097 non fatal injury and 9,777 in the PDO (No Injury) row.
| Guilford County, 2024 | Crashes | Injuries | 5 Year Avg. crashes, 2020 to 2024 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fatal | 74 | 78 | 70.2 |
| Non Fatal Injury | 5,097 | 7,950 | 4,973.4 |
| PDO (No Injury) | 9,777 | None listed | 8,967.6 |
| Total | 14,948 | 8,028 | 14,011.2 |
The profile's 78 fatal injuries for 2024 equal the 78 deaths in the Crash Facts county table, and its 2020 through 2023 fatal injury figures line up with that table year for year. About two of every three Guilford crashes in 2024 sit in the no injury row.
Pedestrian and alcohol rows in the 2024 Guilford profile
The same profile gives Guilford County 199 pedestrian crashes in 2024, 25 of them fatal, and 578 alcohol related crashes, 12 of them fatal.
| Guilford County profile, 2024 | Fatal crashes | Non fatal injury crashes | PDO crashes | Total crashes | Total injuries |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pedestrian Crashes | 25 | 172 | 2 | 199 | 238 |
| Alcohol Related Crashes | 12 | 277 | 289 | 578 | 424 |
Exception. The county profile and the Greensboro city row are separate state publications, and neither explains how its counts relate to the other. I never take the city figures away from the county figures to estimate what happened outside Greensboro.
05
Guilford's 60 school bus crashes, and requesting the 2025 edition
Guilford County appears with 60 school bus crashes, 0 fatalities and 89 injuries in the 2024 edition's 2024 School Bus Crashes By County table.
| 2024 school bus table | Crashes | Fatalities | Injuries |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guilford County | 60 | 0 | 89 |
With 89 injuries across 60 crashes, at least some of those Guilford bus crashes hurt more than one person.
Asking the NCDMV for Greensboro's 2025 figures
The NCDMV handles requests for its 2025 report by email, at operations-support@ncdot.gov, according to its Crash Facts page. Its archive offers downloads of every edition from 2004 to 2024, so the Greensboro and Guilford figures here all come from 2024.
If a Greensboro case calls for 2025 figures, the route the NCDMV gives is an email request.

Why Greensboro's citywide numbers cannot settle fault in your crash
The 2024 Greensboro row reports how many crashes, fatalities and injuries the state counted for the city, and nothing in it finds anyone at fault. I read a citywide total as background and nothing more.
Your own crash report, your photos and the witnesses who saw the collision describe your crash, and the citywide figures cannot.
The report on your own Greensboro crash matters more to you than any total on this page, and the Greensboro Police Department releases copies to drivers, passengers and registered owners.
To request that report, use the Greensboro crash report page. The Greensboro city page describes how we first talk and when I can come to you.
Questions
Common questions
Why does Guilford County show 78 deaths when Greensboro shows 50?
The 78 is Guilford County's countywide figure, which covers High Point, the smaller towns and every road beyond a city limit as well as Greensboro. The 50 comes from Greensboro's own row in the City Crash Data table. Both numbers are printed in the North Carolina 2024 Traffic Crash Facts.
Do the Greensboro numbers include crashes at UNCG or the airport?
The City Crash Data table gives no answer. The table prints one Greensboro row and no footnote on how crashes are placed in a city, so it does not show if a UNCG campus crash or a PTI crash is part of Greensboro's figures.
How many Greensboro crashes in 2024 involved alcohol?
The Alcohol group of Greensboro's 2024 city row shows 350 crashes, with 12 fatalities and 275 injuries. The table gives no definition of how a crash is placed in that group, so I read 350 as the state's count and claim nothing beyond it.
